Indiana Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (IACTE)

IACTE is a professional organization of colleges and universities with undergraduate and/or graduate programs to prepare professional educators and is a state organization of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE). It is made up of university administrators and faculty, and actively seeks input from a variety of constituent groups. AACTE and IACTE collaborate to strengthen their advocacy efforts, share experience and expertise, and expand their members’ professional development opportunities. To this end, our Chapter’s relationship with AACTE is a voluntary affiliation that allows us to advance our members’ interests.

Association membership is at the institutional level. Colleges and Universities which show progress toward state-level program approval may qualify to be a Candidate Member in accord with the IACTE Constitution.

IACTE serves its members in three major areas:

  1. Advocates for public policy - the association works in close collaboration with the Indiana Professional Standards Board and the Indiana Department of Education and has served as a major player in shaping policy within the state.

  2. Professional Initiatives - in association with AACTE, the state association works to expand the knowledge base about teaching and teacher education through meetings and technology.

  3. Peer support - the association encourages and supports members in accomplishing the agenda of the educational community. It holds 4-5 meetings annually, supports the Outstanding Future Educator Award and the Outstanding Teacher Educator Award.
